If you like creepy escape rooms this might be the perfect game for you! The Almost Gone is a beautiful game visually and in its storyline. If you are into spooky things (it is basically halfway to Halloween at the time of posting!) and love puzzles I will highly recommend The Almost Gone to you.
Separated into 5 acts this game can easily be completed in about 2 hours if you’re really focused on it.
There is also a demo for this game, I played it before deciding to purchase it. If you want to learn more about The Almost Gone demo and other game demos read more here. Grab your headphones (the experience is best with headphones) and try them out for free before you buy!
Disclaimer: The Almost Gone is a story that has themes of mental health and abusive families. Please be aware that the themes in this game might be triggering for survivors of abuse or trauma.
Storyline
This is a story about generational trauma. It is intriguing and uses subtle details that leaves the player to try to piece together what this family has gone through. The main character explores the trauma their family has gone through over multiple generations.
Gameplay
This game is full of thought-provoking puzzles as you work through areas room by room. I personally am not a good puzzle person so I did end up needing some help from a walkthrough. But if you love puzzles and like I said in the blog's intro, if you like escape room type puzzles I think this game is PERFECT for you.
Check out the walkthrough I used here (spoiler warning)
Music
So so ominous and spooky. Not even really music? More like white noise at times. Not really what I’m used to but it definitely added to the atmosphere of the game!
Price
The Almost Gone is 12.59 CAD. A great price for this game. I actually purchased the game when it was on sale for like $2.50!
Buy the game on the Nintendo E-shop here.
Overall this game was intriguing, the art style was beautiful, the atmosphere was very ominous and the puzzles definitely got your mind working. If you’re looking for a short game with a good story and good puzzles I highly recommend this especially since the price point is very affordable!
